Day Dreaming Organization — A Modern Site for a Youth Nonprofit

A fast, mobile-first WordPress site for a 501(c)(3) youth nonprofit — with donations, program registration, hero video, and CMS controls a volunteer can actually use.

Day Dreaming Organization is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving youth across Lawrence, Methuen, Haverhill, and Andover in the Merrimack Valley. They came to us needing a site that could do two things at once: tell the mission story with photos and video, and work as a functional tool that accepts donations, opens program registrations, and lets a small staff post updates without touching code.

The result is a fast, mobile-first WordPress build hosted on 978host’s managed infrastructure — designed so a volunteer with no technical background can update it, and so a first-time visitor can go from landing page to completed donation in under a minute.

What was built

🎬 Mission-forward homepage

  • Full-width video hero — real footage of youth in the field, autoplaying muted with a poster fallback for slower connections
  • Rotating photo carousel — staff-managed image slideshow featuring recent events, drop-in-and-reorder editing
  • Impact-metrics band — 180 youth served, 500+ community reached, 20+ yearly activities, 100% free programming
  • Four-pillar program tiles — Education & Mentoring, Sports & Wellness, Arts & Expression, Civic Engagement — each with its own imagery, description, and signup path

💵 Donation flow

  • Prominent Donate CTA in the header and repeated at the bottom of every program page
  • Preset amount selector — $25 / $50 / $100 / custom — with a recurring vs one-time toggle
  • Secure processing — PCI-compliant payment flow, HTTPS everywhere, no card data ever touches the WordPress database
  • Automated donor receipts — instant tax-deduction language sent to the donor’s inbox, with the org’s 501(c)(3) EIN included

📝 Program registration

  • Per-program registration forms — one for each of the four pillars, with fields tuned to that program’s intake
  • Parent/guardian consent capture built into every youth-facing form
  • Auto-routing to program leads — each submission emails the coordinator responsible for that pillar, not just a generic inbox
  • Volunteer signup flow separate from youth registration, with follow-up automation

📱 Mobile-first everything

  • Fully responsive from 320px phones up through 4K displays
  • Fast on 4G — homepage delivers usable content in under 2 seconds even on a slower mobile connection
  • Adaptive hero — the video background degrades gracefully to a static poster image on slow networks or when data-saver mode is on
  • Thumb-friendly forms — donation and registration flows tested with actual thumbs, not just narrow browser windows

⚙️ Built for non-developers

  • Photo slideshow — drop new event photos in, drag to reorder, no HTML required
  • Program cards — WYSIWYG editing with brand-safe typography and spacing baked in
  • News & updates blog — for drives, fundraisers, and milestone announcements, with social-share previews auto-generated
  • Media library organized by year and program — so a staff member can find last year’s Sports photos in seconds

🔒 Hosting, security & performance

  • Managed WordPress hosting on 978host’s infrastructure — SSD storage, HTTP/2, server-side caching
  • Free SSL certificate with auto-renewal — no more expired-certificate warnings
  • Daily automated backups retained for 30 days, with one-click restore
  • Automatic core and plugin updates monitored by our team — the org never has to log in to patch a security release
  • Uptime monitoring — if the site goes down, we know before they do

🌐 Social & community

  • Instagram + Facebook integration — recent posts pulled directly onto the site, no manual re-uploading
  • Smart contact routing — inquiries about programs go to program coordinators, donation questions go to fundraising, media requests go to leadership
  • Open Graph & Twitter card metadata — every page has share-ready previews with the right image and copy

The outcome

Day Dreaming’s staff runs the site themselves — no monthly retainer just to publish an event photo. First-time donors complete a gift in under a minute. Parents can register a child for a program from a phone at the park. And when the next fundraising campaign launches, new landing pages can go live in hours, not weeks.
